Be Aware - Humane Societies aren't that humane

The slaughter of cats and dogs that is going on at these so-called 'Humane' Societies is truly shocking, and most people don't understand what is going on. These places exist primarily as dumping grounds for the animal control trucks, and their main mission is to always have cages available to house new dogs and cats dropped off by the animal control trucks. This means that if the facility is full, they must daily, kill a number of animals to make way for new ones being unloaded. Have you noticed how you just don't see any 'stray' animals anymore ???

And this is to keep our freeways and roads free of the 'clutter' and 'nuisance' of these 'excess' life forms. After all, 'space' needs to be made so Grand-ma can scream down the highway at 75 mph to get to work, doesn't it ?

And the Humane societies are misleading people about what they actually do. When I asked the Humane Society, 'How much time does the dog have left ?' they answered 'We keep them until they get adopted'. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Their rules about spaying and neutering also needlessly kill many dogs and cats. The spaying fee raises the price of the pet to eighty-five dollars, which many would-be owners cannot afford. Think how many more would be adopted if they only charged 40-45 for each adoption, instead of $85. Are they really that paranoid that ALL these pets are going to somehow escape from their owner's back-yards and have sex with each other ? How many needless killings are taking place just because people can't afford the high adoption fees. Again, keeping the town "free of clutter" by insisting on spaying and neutering, and charging fees, takes priority over pet survival and getting more adopted.

Due the spaying requirement, even the most beautiful dogs and cats adopted from humane societies, are doomed to be the last of their kind. They will never be able to reproduce for other generations to enjoy. Once captured by the Humane Society, regardless of whether they are adopted or put through euthanasia, they will be the last of their kind and will never reproduce. So who is left remaining to produce that next generation of dogs and cats ? The puppy-mill profiteers and criminals, and strays still free outside, certainly not the best pets picked out of the humane society.

While No-kill Shelters offer part of the solution, as a practical reality all shelters will become full so long as the rate of pets into the facility exceeds the rate they are adopted out. It seems there should be some legislation enacted to ensure a minimum of 3 1/2 months before euthanizing a dog or cat. At least this gives all interested parties a chance to adopt the animal. Right now, in most shelters, the animals may have as little as 2-3 weeks before they are euthanized. This is really not enough time for anyone to really even see the animal. The Humane Societies and pounds are killing off the country's pet population at an estimated rate of 3,000,000 per year. If this means we must expand the storage capacity of the local shelters to handle three months worth of pets, so be it !!! Contact your local politician.
